Résumé
Depuis quelques années, le Tchad, du fait de ses interventions en Afrique, a réussi à se distinguer comme un acteur majeur du champ militaro-sécuritaire en Afrique. Si certains analystes expliquent la montée en puissance de ce pays sur la scène africaine comme la résultante de la recherche d'un leadership régional, d'autres y voient l'influence de facteurs sociohistoriques sur la volonté de satisfaire des intérêts stratégiques. La présente étude, sans remettre en questions les précédentes, envisage de comprendre le comportement du Tchad en se fondant sur la distinction néolibérale entre ‘low' et ‘high politics'. Dans cette perspective, elle montre d'une part que les interventions militaires apparaissent pour ce pays comme un tremplin à la reconstruction de son identité nationale, fragilisée par de longues périodes de conflits internes et, d'autre part, que celles-ci constituent un moyen pour le Tchad de participer à la redistribution de la puissance en Afrique de l'ouest et du centre afin de tirer un maximum de profit du marché de la défense et de la sécurité.
Abstract
In recent years, Chad, due to its interventions in Africa, has managed to distinguish itself as a major player in the military-security field on the continent. While some analysts explain the rise of the country on the African scene as the result of its quest for regional leadership, others see the influence of socio-historical factors on its desire to satisfy strategic interests. The present study, without questioning such insights, aims to understand the behaviour of Chad based on the neoliberal distinction between ‘low' and ‘high politics'. In this perspective, it shows for one thing that the country's military interventions appear to serve an internal purpose - the reconstruction of its national identity, weakened by long periods of internal conflicts and, for another, that they constitute a means for Chad to participate in the redistribution of power in West and Central Africa in order to secure maximum benefits from the defence and security market.
